  • Michael Shuman

    LOCAL FUND EXPERT

    Michael H. Shuman is an economist, attorney, author, and entrepreneur, and a leading visionary on community economics. He’s Director of Local Economy Programs for Neighborhood Associates Corporation, and an Adjunct Professor at Bard Business School in New York City. He is also a Senior Researcher for Council Fire and Local Analytics, where he performed economic-development analyses for states, local governments, and businesses around North America.

    He is credited with being one of the architects of the 2012 JOBS Act and dozens of state laws overhauling securities regulation of crowdfunding. He has authored, coauthored, or edited ten books. His three most recent books are Put Your Money Where Your Life Is: How to Invest Locally Using Solo 401ks and Self-Directed IRAs; The Local Economy Solution: How Innovative, Self-Financing Pollinator Enterprises Can Grow Jobs and Prosperity, and Local Dollars, Local Sense: How to Shift Your Money from Wall Street to Main Street.

  • Kevin Doyle Jones

    CATALYTIC FUND EXPERT

    Working with his wife and business partner, the Rev. Rosa Lee Harden, Kevin Jones has had a number of successful startups, in the media, information and events businesses. Starting as a country weekly newspaper editor in the poorest county in Mississippi, he went on to write for the New York Times and was a columnist for Forbes.

    They sold their dotcom business and co-created SOCAP, the world’s largest impact investing and social enterprise conference. He has spent nearly 20 years in the social enterprise and investing including being full time on an anti-malaria project in Africa.

    Kevin has been working on events, new financial instruments and an online community focused on re-engaging people of faith in creating a network of interdependent, neighborly economies.

    Joel Skene spent his first career serving the poor as a Peace Corps Volunteer, a case manager for the Chronically Homeless, director of a Food Bank and Social Enterprise Manager addressing Food Insecurity.

    He then built at Multi-Million Dollar Life Insurance agency and won several awards for top production and outstanding leadership.

    Today, Skene Financial is Dedicated to Protecting the Solidarity Economy and helps Local Investors with Enduring Acceleration and Downside Capture Strategies.

    In 2022, Joel joined BizRadio.US as host of The Mindful Marketplace - A show dedicated to telling the stories of Local & Impact Investors, Social Entrepreneurs, Values Based Advisors, Shared-Ownership Businesses, Community Finance, and Solidarity Economics.
