<image:caption>I was raised in an extremely small town where most people were dairy farmers. My father was a Protestant Minister and my mother worked part time while she went back to school to become a librarian. My parents raised me with a desire to serve others, and a commitment to care about people less fortunate than myself. This lead me to study Community Development in college and begin my career with the Peace Corps, then as a social worker and director of a food bank.</image:caption>

<image:title>Episodes - Kevin Doyle Jones - A New Kind of Economics</image:title>
<image:caption>Ready to have your worldview shaken up? Prepare to meet Kevin Jones, the founder of Impact Investing Conference SoCap, who will challenge your perspective on the business world. Kevin reveals the often overlooked pitfalls of big businesses and their profit maximization – an often ruthless endeavor that overlooks worker welfare. He guides us through the intriguing notion of how investing locally can have a multiplier effect, leading to job creation and wealth accumulation over generations. Using the Shiloh community as an illustrative example, Kevin paints a vivid, compelling picture of the potential that local economies hold. Picture a world where mission-driven land acquisition levels the playing field for small businesses against big corporations. Imagine if economic justice was not just a buzzword, but a tangible outcome of innovative financial solutions. This is not a dream, it's the vision of our guest, Kevin Doyle-Jones, the founder of the Impact Investing Conference known as SOCAP. We kick things off by discussing the enormous power of impact investing and its potential to challenge the dominance of big banks. Kevin shares intriguing insights about how big banks' skewed interest rates influence the economic landscape. The conversation takes a joyful turn as we share the heartwarming news of medical debt cancellation for Columbus, Ohio residents. Kevin and I then challenge the traditional investing concept of 'two-pocket thinking'. We unveil how this mindset led us to start a conference, offering a fresh perspective on investing, philanthropy, and economic justice. As we move further, we take a critical look at the traditional business school education and its potential disconnect with the realities of today's economy. We question BB&T Bank's substantial donation to a program advocating Ayn Rand's philosophies, and the potential implications it may have on future business leaders. But it's not all critique! We end on a positive note, envisioning the potential of a new economy and how SOCAP is a driving force in this evolution. Join us next week as we continue to explore this exciting frontier of impact investing and economic justice. Our enlightening conversation with Kevin didn't stop there. We delved deeper with him into the fascinating world of catalytic investing and the promising shift towards impact investing. Kevin expertly deconstructs the concept of program-related investing, showcasing how it can be an effective tool in creating justice and fostering community growth. Also, we explore how innovations like immigrant saving circles are revolutionizing the investment field. Tune in and get ready to change your outlook on investing. You'll understand why it's not just about financial returns, but also about the long-term effects and the profound impact we can make in our world by simply investing in each other. https://neighborhoodeconomics.org/ This program is brought to you by: Arc Integrated Be sure to visit BizRadio.US to discover hundreds more engaging conversations, local events and more.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Mike works with people by listening to their needs before giving advice, doing thorough research before giving answers, and helping Mosaic Realty clients and brokers make positive choices that will enhance their well-being and financial security. As the owner and founder of Mosaic Realty, he has the pleasure to refer new Mosaic Realty clients to experienced Mosaic Realty brokers, making the best matches for our clients. From modern green homes to historic houses, and from luxury to starter, Mosaic Realty has brokers who service Asheville and the WNC mountains region. As the broker-in-charge of Mosaic Realty, all of Mosaic’s clients are also Mike’s clients, and he collaborates with his agents throughout the transaction to make sure that the real estate experience is as seamless and stressless as possible. Mike moved to Asheville from a similar town, Charlottesville, Virginia. After graduating from the University of Virginia with degrees in Environmental Science and Environmental Thought and Practice, he decided that Asheville was the place. Mike obtained his real estate license in 2005 and worked in real estate brokerage simultaneously with green building development and urban planning consulting. In 2009, he moved into real estate full-time and started Mosaic Community Lifestyle Realty. With the help of talented brokers and staff, he realized his goal of making Mosaic Realty the most successful locally-owned brokerage in Asheville. Not just that, but Mosaic’s agents are some of the most successful in the area, with Mosaic Realty having the highest number of transactions per year, coupled with the highest per-agent sales average out of any company in the area, both chains and local companies. If you are looking for a real estate broker in Asheville and you think that Mosaic Realty would be able to serve your needs well, or if you have general questions, feel free to email mike at mike@mymosaicrealty.com or call at (828) 337-8190. <image:title>Episodes - Jeffrey Kaplan - Building Better Entrepreneurship</image:title>
<image:caption>Jeffrey Kaplan is an award-winning entrepreneur, published author, and professional speaker on the topics of entrepreneurial development and startup ecosystems. Serving as the Director of Venture Asheville, Jeffrey’s portfolio of startups created over 350 jobs, raised over $50M investment dollars, and earned over $105M in revenue. Taking an unconventional approach to founder and startup ecosystem development, informed by his time at UF in the MSE program and as staff in the UF Entrepreneurship and Innovation Center, earned Jeffrey an International Economic Development Council Gold Ranking for Innovation and Impact, an appointment by Governor Roy Cooper to the NC Board of Science, Technology, and Innovation, and listed as one of 2022’s Business NC “Trailblazers”. The underlying philosophy and methodology can be seen in his 2022 TEDxAsheville talk, “How to Build a Better Entrepreneur.” Using entrepreneurship as a model for upward mobility Jeffrey fundraised over $3M for a loan fund serving BIPOC founders with criminal records or no collateral. He also created a Micro Grant Fund of over $50,000 for entrepreneurs with no personal savings to start a business. Prior to leading Venture Asheville, Jeffrey worked for a number of startups in product development spanning ed-tech, healthcare, pet-tech, a dating site, and one internet-connected kegerator. He credits his entrepreneurial leaning to his father and grandfather, tenacious Cuban immigrants who relentlessly pursue opportunity. When not working with founders or talking about entrepreneurship, Jeffrey can be found with his wife Danielle and their two children on an Asheville trail, paddling in the French Broad River, or at a brewery. https://ventureasheville.com/</image:caption>

<image:title>Episodes - Shammah Waller - An Experiential Enterprise</image:title>
<image:caption>Hey! I’m Shammah the proud owner of Vegan Friendly Tours! I’m passionate about veganism, & entertainment! Which is why I’m also a professional photographer, musician, actor, and full time fun loving vegan! Before I moved to Asheville, North Carolina, I spent 4 years in New York City doing professional photography, studying film and television acting, and performing at music concerts. All while doing that I lived a vegan friendly lifestyle! Vegan Friendly Tours was created to combine entertainment & veganism, and give non vegans, friendly, healthy, fun experiences around veganism. Over time I noticed some restaurants don’t cater to people that are vegan, or have other diet restrictions. In fact, there have been a lot of times I’d go out with friends to eat, but there was nothing there for me so I’d just watch, and after a while I didn’t expect to eat when going to restaurants, so instead, I’d only go to fellowship with friends. Although sometimes when I got really hungry I would find out what they had for vegans, and as you can imagine the servers weren’t always friendly, and the restaurants didn’t always have something. However there were some places where they were friendly, and had vegan friendly options, and when they did it felt really special to me, and that’s a feeling I want to share with the world. So come join me on a Vegan Friendly Tour, and let’s have a friendly, healthy, fun experience together because this is where veganism meets entertainment!</image:caption>

<image:title>Episodes - Kendal Kulp - Community through Canines</image:title>
<image:caption>Kendal Kulp, co-founder and CEO of Wagbar off-leash dog park and bar started his career in the outdoor recreation industry while obtaining his B.S in Recreation Management with a concentration in Outdoor Experiential Education and a Minor in General Business at Appalachian State University. He worked as a zip-line guide, climbing instructor, and snowboarding instructor to follow his passion for recreation and the outdoors while running his phone repair business to pay the bills. In 2015, while frequenting dog parks in his hometown of Asheville, NC, with his family dog, Sammy, he realized that dog parks were missing something. Dog parks are a great way to socialize but can be dirty, unsafe, and offer nothing for humans. Bars require dogs to be on a leash and are generally not dog friendly. In late 2019 after graduating college and successfully running a business in the insurance industry for three years, Kendal decided to pursue his dream of opening an off-leash dog park and bar. Wagbar was born. Kendal is now franchising the business to share the Wagbar community across the country and help other dog-loving entrepreneurs create the career and lifestyles of their dreams.</image:caption>

<image:title>Episodes - Gwendolyn Dare Hageman - Changing Cheese and Empowering Employees</image:title>
<image:caption>Darë was brought into existence by chef, Gwendolyn Dare Hageman, who spent most of her life as an omnivore inspired by her chef Dad. The two had a snack ritual involving a block of cheese, a pack of crackers, and a knife. When Gwendolyn decided to pursue an animal-free lifestyle, the thought of losing her favorite snack sent her searching high and low for a sufficient substitute. Time and again, she came up empty, thus beginning her journey in creating the taste she craved. Not one to back down from a challenge, Gwendolyn grew inspired by the limitations imposed by a meat- and dairy-free lifestyle. She turned to the ancient tradition of cheesemaking and explored fermentation to coax flavor and texture from her plant-based creations. She cultivated a culture that, when married with cashews, exploded with flavor. What emerged was a passion for the food she was making, a hunger to make people happy, and the innovation to satisfy multiple palates. From there, the rest is history. Born and raised in Dare County, North Carolina, the company name, (pronounced “Dairy”, by the way), is a play on Gwendolyn’s middle name and a cheeky nod to the bold approach in which Darë Vegan Cheese was made. Today, her company focuses on small-batch, handmade goodness. With a team of dedicated and passionate individuals, Darë chooses people over machinery and passion over everything to make a product infused with love and intention. In this journey, Darë has found joy and purpose in creating a satisfying dairy-free cheese that leaves nothing to be desired. Well, maybe one thing, and that’s more Darë Vegan Cheese!</image:caption>

<image:caption>Clark is an artist at heart and his vision has helped grow the LoLo Gifts program from a simple idea to a scaling business in just over 2 years. Clark also is a certified Deep-water-tech diver as well as a private pilot and knows how to stay cool under pressure. Clark is a native of Wilson, NC, but it could be argued his true home is in the woods or on the banks of a river with a fly rod. He also spent 100 days in silence on a fundraising campaign in honor of his late mother to "Silence Cancer".</image:caption>

<image:title>Debt Elimination - Freedom From</image:title>
<image:caption>One of the most common things I hear from people is that they would LOVE to make a bigger positive social impact with their spending and investment money, but they can’t afford to. Why? In large part because the average American household spends 34% of their gross income on interest to debt. Everyone wants to be Free From debt, but few knows how to maximize their payoffs most efficiently for their unique situation.</image:caption>
